🎉 YYC Neighbour Day Returns June 21: Big Boost for Local Connection
Calgary’s beloved Neighbour Day is back on Saturday, June 21, 2025, giving neighbourhoods city-wide a day to connect, celebrate, and build lasting bonds.
The City of Calgary is again waiving block-party and greenspace permits for June 21 events—just include “Neighbour Day” in your permit application to qualify.
🔊 How YYC Celebrates Together
Host block parties, BBQs, artisan markets, musical gatherings, and talent shows—as long as the events are free and community-focused.
Popular add-ons include fire trucks, library-book trucks, and surprise visits from the Mayor or Councillors.
Plus, Sport Calgary’s “All Sport One Day” will run concurrently, giving youth aged 6–17 a chance to sample sports for free on June 21.
Why it matters: Originating after the 2013 floods, Neighbour Day has grown into a city-wide celebration of resilience and connection. It strengthens neighbourhood ties, promotes wellness, and creates experiences that help shape Calgary’s sense of community. Click here to see if your neighbourhood has an event planned.
[PUBLISHER’S NOTE: I have attended multiple block parties and they are a lot of fun and a great way to meet the neighbours! I recommend attending if your area is having one. If they don’t start planning to spearhead organizing one for next year.]

Calgary’s popular Farm Stand Program is back, bringing fresh produce directly to communities across the city. Since launching in 2017, it now features nine local vendors operating at over 30 stands weekly through May and June. Ground just broke on a 16-unit affordable housing development in Mount Pleasant. Scheduled to wrap up by summer 2026, the homes will include eco-friendly features like solar panels, accessible design, and access to a nearby dog park and playground. With a total budget of $7.9 million, supported by provincial and federal funding, it’s a clear step toward more affordable, integrated communities in Calgary.
⚡️ ChargeYYC Helps Multi‑residential EV Charging
Urban-dwelling Calgarians are getting help with going electric. ChargeYYC, a new City-led initiative, offers up to $4,000 in incentives for building owners to plan EV charging installations in apartments, condos, and townhomes. This makes it easier and greener to switch to electric vehicles and drives Calgary closer to its low-carbon goals .

🍽️ Featured Restaurant: Dairy Lane Café (Est. 1950!)
Tucked into the heart of West Hillhurst, Dairy Lane Café is a Calgary institution with small-town charm and big heart. First opened in 1950, it’s one of those places where every booth has a story, and the staff know your coffee order before you sit down.
What makes it shine? Locally sourced ingredients, for one. From Highwood Crossing oats to Sunworks Farm eggs, they’ve made it a mission to serve farm-to-fork freshness long before it was trendy. The menu? Think: Alberta beef burgers, fluffy buttermilk pancakes, and one of the best egg bennies in the city. All crafted with sustainability in mind.
Inside, it’s cozy and unpretentious, with about a dozen tables (including a great patio), and walls filled with local art. It’s the kind of place where you chat with your neighbour over brunch and end up splitting a side of hashbrowns.
And the vibe? Pure West Hillhurst: friendly, walkable, and full of character. Whether you’re a regular or just rolling through for the weekend, Dairy Lane delivers the kind of comfort that makes you want to linger.
