🌳 Radio Park Opens in West District
Calgary just gained a stunning new community hub with the grand opening of Radio Park in West District. Spanning nearly eight acres, the park features a central lake with boardwalks, a performance amphitheatre, playgrounds, skatepark, sprayground, and wide lawns perfect for year-round gatherings. Designed to blend beauty with function, the lake also doubles as a stormwater system—and transforms into a skating rink in winter. Beyond the amenities, Radio Park gives residents a place to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the outdoors together. It’s a vibrant new destination that strengthens community life and adds another jewel to Calgary’s growing list of world-class public spaces.
🍴 Food Scene & Neighborhood Treats
Calgary’s dining life got a fresh bump this weekend with Globefish Sushi & Izakaya launching a new location in Seton, spotlighting solo dining booths that offer privacy and comfort for individuals craving sushi or ramen without feeling like they need a large group. Untitled Champagne Lounge also rolled out a refreshed menu—think foie gras doughnuts and duck croquettes—as well as a “Champagne Fling” flight special and new food pairings. These additions aren’t just about new taste options; they build community, give neighbourhoods like Seton more culinary variety, and make dining out more inclusive for all types of diners.
🌱 Nature & Culture: Festivals & Family Fun
This past weekend Calgary came alive with festivals and nature-focused fun. The Alberta Biodiversity Festival at the Bow Habitat Station paired education with adventure—inviting families and nature lovers to explore Alberta’s varied ecosystems. Meanwhile, the Harvest Fair at Granary Road kicked off a seasonal celebration with pumpkins, apple treats, and fall activities, perfect for bringing neighbours and friends together outdoors. These kinds of events support community well-being, encourage outdoor activity, celebrate local culture, and inject joy into daily life. [EDITOR’S NOTE: Both of my kids have visited the Bow Habitat on field trips, and they loved it! Check it out if you’ve never been.]

🍽 Feature Restaurant: Cardinale – An Italian Joint
Cardinale, a crowd favourite in Victoria Park, holds a 4.5 ⭐️ rating from 747 reviews. This cozy spot captures the warmth of Italian dining without demands on formality—or your wallet.
Known for its handcrafted pastas, locally-sourced meats, fresh produce, and a menu that mixes comfort with a bit of flair, you’ll find dishes like rustic pasta specials alongside more classic Italian mains. Most dinners cost $30 and under, putting it much more within reach for regular weekday dining or a nicer weekend night out.
The atmosphere is casual but carefully styled—friendly service, thoughtful plating, and the kind of place where pairing a glass of wine with your meal feels natural, not fancy. For many Calgarians, Cardinale offers just the right balance: excellent food, pleasing ambience, and good value. 👉 More about Cardinale

🏞️ DAY TRIP IDEA
🚗 Day-Trip Idea: Upper Kananaskis Lake – Alpine Waters & Trail Adventures
Tucked deep into Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Upper Kananaskis Lake is one of the crown jewels of the Canadian Rockies — and just under two hours from Calgary. Surrounded by rugged peaks and dense forests, the lake offers a mix of activities for every kind of adventurer: from leisurely shoreline walks and picnics, to full-day hikes circling the lake, to stand-up paddleboarding across its clear, glacier-fed waters. On calmer days, paddling here is unforgettable, with mountains mirrored on the surface and the occasional bald eagle soaring overhead.
Hiking options range from the family-friendly Upper Kananaskis Lake Loop (a relatively flat but long shoreline trail), to more challenging routes like Rawson Lake (climbing up to an alpine lake above the valley) or Aster Lake for those seeking bigger elevation and more solitude. Wildlife is common, so keep your eyes peeled for deer, bighorn sheep, or even the occasional moose.
Trip Overview
Distance from Calgary: ~2 hour drive (165 km west via Hwy 1 to Hwy 40, then Kananaskis Lakes Trail)
Trail Length: Upper Kananaskis Lake Loop ~15.7 km round trip (moderate, rolling terrain)
Elevation Gain: ~300 m on the loop; ~420 m to Rawson Lake; more if continuing to Sarrail Ridge
Time Needed: 4–6 hours hiking, or shorter if only doing part of the loop; add time for SUP or a lakeside picnic
Facilities: Paved parking lots, washrooms, picnic tables at North & South Interlakes day-use areas
Best Time to Visit: June–September for hiking and paddling (snow lingers well into spring); early mornings often mean calmer winds for SUP
