It has been a bit of a "one step forward, two steps back" start to the year for our Calgary Flames. After that high-energy 5–1 win over Philly to ring in the New Year, the team hit a rough patch on the road, dropping five of their last six games.

However, the Flames managed to end their road trip on a high note last night with a gritty 3–1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Captain Mikael Backlund continues to lead by example, netting a short-handed goal, while Matt Coronato and Yegor Sharangovich also found the back of the net to help the team head home with some much-needed confidence.

The Week in Review

The "worst-to-first" dream hit a reality check this week as the team struggled for consistency. While the record has slipped slightly back below .500 (20–23–4), they remain in the mix of a very congested Western Conference.

Road Woes: A tough stretch saw losses to Montreal and Columbus, but the win in Chicago helps stop the bleeding. Standout Stars: Mikael Backlund remains the heartbeat of the team, while Dustin Wolf continues to show he belongs in the crease. Roster Watch: Keep an eye on the trade wires—rumors are swirling around veterans like Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri as the front office evaluates the direction for the second half of the season.
